Last night we tried a new Afghan restaurant in Dandenong. My sister in law ate there a couple of weeks ago and recommended it.
The director (that's what's on his card) Farid was a lovely man. Very welcoming when we arrived, happy to explain the menu when we were ordering. Ray and l decided to share entrees and mains, we always do that so that you try a few more dishes.
When the food started to arrive l asked if l could take a picture of it as l wanted to write about it on my blog. He got very excited and as the night went on we realised he thought that l was doing a restaurant review. We had a couple of extra dishes arrive that we weren't charged for. He bought his daughter out to meet us - she'd just finished Year 12 and it was her first night waitressing at the restaurant. Then he bought his wife out to meet us - she does all the cooking.
He gave me extra business cards - "because l was going to write about his retaurant".
Honestly, l tried to explain what a blog was but as l said l think he misunderstood.
Anyway our meal was delicious. We shared a bread - similar to pita bread that had been stuffed with a pumpkin mixture and one with a potato mixture, not well explained but very yummy. We also had mince lamb puffs, similar to what you might get in an Indian Restaurant with a lovely sauce.
The main main was chunks of lamb that was from the shoulder. It came on scewers that were about 2 feet long, 4 in all. He asked did we want him to remove them from the scewers. Ray said no, we'd handle that ourselves. Next time Farid can remove them from the scewers for us. There was also an eggplant dish, bread and a lovely fresh salad. He then bought out a dessert for us all to share - free of charge.
There were 4 of us, we shared the bill - $25 per head!
If you live close by, please try it. Farid and his wife are lovely and couldn't do enough for us and the food was yummy. Not at all hot, just very tasty and lots of it. They take credit card by the way.
There you go, my restaurant reveiw.
Oh and as we were leaving we noticed a picture of Farid with Matt Preston. I asked him about it and he got 6 more pics from under the copunter to show us. Wonder what he would have done if he realised that Ray Martin had just eaten a meal.
Oh and if you'd like to try this restaurant go to the new Album on the right hand side - You Might Like to Try this Restaurant, I have scanned in the business card, it has all the details on it.
