The question on everyone's lips..... I love ric rac and sell it in all colours and sizes, my fav would have to be the linen ric rac. Have never known how you measure the width of the different ric racs until now.
Great to use when doing embroidery, simply run through your printer, press onto your background fabric and start stitching.
Then simply remove by submerging in warm water, agitate for 2 - 3 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
On Saturday night we celebrated Australia Day with some of our friends. It was a great night. Set up our games room complete with a vase of gum leaves because the forecast was for thunder storms. However they didn't eventuate so we stayed outside. We did have some uninvited guests, the dreaded mossie, but apart from that it all went well. The sauages in bread were a big hit and the lamington cheesecake was delcious. Lovely food and lovely company. Can't ask for more than that.
Last year we celebrated everything, just because we could. It was fun and added some interest to the week. We plan to do the same this year. And so our next celebration is Chinese New Year. A packet of Yum Cha from the local supermarket will be perfect. (I didn't say it had to be fancy, just a bit of fun!)
For many years Australia Day was just a long weekend. But recently Aussies seemed to have embraced their national day and rightly so. I think we live in a very lucky country.
It has become tradition amongst our close friends that they come aroundto our place for supper. We are a multicultural country and one of the best things about that for me is the wonderful new foods that we have been introduced to. So tonight we will nibble on sundried tomatoes and olives, Turkish bread with olive tepenade and feta cheese and some Aussie cheeses. This will be followed by lamb sausages on the barbecue and meat pies and sauce. For dessert my friend has made a lamington cheesecake. And we will feast on lamintons and caramello kolas with coffee.
I have the coasters and napkins that feature the Australian flag and will put out some vases of gum leaves, Will also hang the Australian flag. A country and western singer, Lee Kernaghan has been named Aussie of the year. And so we will play his CD (much to Ray's disgust, he hates country music.).
Thought I'd celebrate Australia Day by offering all the blog readers a special. We have some wonderful Aussie Designers. Let me run through the ones whose patterns we stock in the shop.
Jennifer Knol, Viv's Creations, Sewjo Designs, Willow Valley Designs, Leanne's House, Gail Pan Designs, Rosalie Quinlan, Melly and Me, Lynette Anderson, Wildcraft Farm, Hatched and Patched, The Birdhouse, Marg Lowe, The Woodcutter's Daughter and the list goes on.
So thought I'd help you celebrate Australia Day by making this offer. Email me an order for any pattern from an Australia designer you can find on my blog between now and when l come back to the shop on Tuesday January 29th and receive a 15% discount. I'll invoice you via Pay Pal and will pop it in the post as soon as l receive payment. Postage will be included on the invoice
Tomorrow, 26th of January is of course Australia Day. We will be open from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm. Because it is a public holiday l will be the only one working the shop so you may have a bit of a wait if we are busy. But the urn will be on and I'm sure you will find something to look at or someone to chat to whilst you wait.
We will be closed on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th of January.
Had a chat to my friend Jenny who runs the Log Cabin Ranch where we hold our camps. Jen was speaking to Ros who came to our Spring Camp (are you following me?). Anyway Ros suggested maybe we have themes for our camps. Don't know why l hadn't thought of it earlier. When l was a school teacher my whole curriculum was planned around themes. Both the sewing days we have during the year have a theme. So why not build our camp around a theme?
And sew (hee hee hee) our theme for Autumn Campis going to be Sisters of Sewing. A bunch of like minded ladies spending Friday night through til early Sunday afternoon stitching. The little goodie bags the girls will receive will have a stitching theme. Perhaps those who are involved in the Dear Jane will look for gifts that relate to stitching.
Camp is on April 18th, 19th and 20th. Love you to join us.
We are running a Thangles program again this year. Choose from three colourways. My quilt is done in Christmas colours, Bronwyn has chosen pastels and Di is offering an Amish quilt (not strictly Amish colours l have discovered after reading a book l received as a gift, thankyou Tina). This year we are using 2.5 inch Thangles. The program will run over 6 months.
How is it organised? Simple, come in each month to collect your 2patterns and 4 strips of fabric, all for $4 per month. Each month we will offer you a 15% discount on an item. Each person is only entitled to one of the colourways and you must come into the shop to pick it up each month. You will not be able to pick up for afriend. If you can't make it one month, the patterns will be available for $2.00 each, but you will have to purchase the fabric to complete the blocks.
You may decide to join us for the Thangles class. I'll share the short cuts l have discovered with you. Visit the Classes album for details.
Take a peek at the Four Season's Stitchery Sampler. It's going to be a class one Saturday a term with Viv from Viv's Creations - a favorite with our customers. There is more to a stitchery than just backstitch and the odd French knot. Will add the details to the class album tonight.
Take a look at Jen's Term 1 Class. It's called Chocolate Ripple. All done in pinks and chocolates. Features an appliqued central panel. First class February 15th, then back again on the 4th of April. A little bit of experience needed.
March, April, May Calendar I am away from Saturday April 15th until Monday May 8th. going on a road trip with seven other ladies from Chicago to Nashville. Along the way there will be a quilt shop or 2 and 4 days at the Paducah Quilt Market. I will be posting my adventures on the blog and Facebook.
The shop will be closed during that time.
