A couple of doors down from our hotel. Because of where we live this is a treat, we have to drive to get everything we need. Called in yesterday to have a beer, we ordered at the bar and it was served at the bar on coasters. 50 Shades asked the you barman what is the price difference to drink out the front sitting down. He explained the different costs to us. We offered to pay more but he just let us go outside, he also asked where we came from.
A while later Ray went back in to get another beer, the barman asked in perfect English if he could ask a question. He wanted to know if we expected people to speak to us in English. Of course Ray said no we didn't, if people are patient with a bit of pointing and our smattering of French we can get by.
Went back again late this afternoon, and an older bloke, looked a little like Fawlty Towers Manuel was behind the bar. We sat at our outside table and ordered deux bieres, no worries. Then ordered a second round. Manuel tried to explain something that went over our heads. He walked away and returned with a menu, there was lots of pointing and head shaking, 50 Shades was all over it and placed the order. Manuel returned with 2 of the biggest beers ever, they were pints and it was apparently happy hour.
Tomorrow will be interesting, we are going out for dinner.
