Cotton Mako 50.....the orange spools, comes in 200m and 1300m spool sizes. This is the finest thread in the range and is perfect for needle turn applique and fine machine applique techniques. It will also create sharp points and perfect block sizes if used in miniature piecing and sharp pointy designs.
Cotton Mako 28.....the grey spools
Ideal when a more defined machine quilting stitch is desired. Also suitable for top stitching and blanket stitching by machine. Excellent for hand embellishing and hand quilting.
Leonie from the Quilted Crow suggests Aurifil 28wt cotton mako thread for hand applique (blanket stitch) on the wool always in a colour to match the wool.
Cotton Mako 40....the green spool, comes in 150m and 1000m spools. Is an extremely versatile thread for general sewing, patchwork piecing, machine quilting, machine embroidery and applique. Beautiful results are achieved when machine quilting.
Red spools are Cotton Mako 12, comes in 50m and 325m spools. Similar to Perle 12 without the lumpy twist. This is Aurifil's stitchery thread and can also be used for modern handquilting or as a top stitch thread on the machine for redwork, sashiko etc.
All the weights are made from the same high quality long staple Egyptian Cotton and all can be used for the same hand and machine techniques, just giving a finer or heavier finish depending on the thread weight.
