1. Use freezer paper when you want to use felt in a project. Trace the shape onto freezer paper. Cut out and iron on to the felt. Cut out the shape. Peel the freezer paper from the felt and begin your applique.
2. Use decorative scissors when cutting out felt shapes.
3. Rather than pinning your felt shape to the background fabric use a small stapler. This is one of the Quilted Crow ideas and it works a treat. Pins distort the shape and get in the way.
4. And this is a favourite idea that l learned many years ago. I can guarantee that it works with my wool/ nylon blend felt. Wet the felt in warm water, squeeze excess water out and throw the felt into the clothes dryer. When the felt is dry it comes out all bubbly. I use that technique often, it adds texture to a shape. It's great for a Santa beard or a flower or an animal. WARNING If your iron the felt after it's been in the dryer it will lose it's bubbly texture. You wont be able to use the freezer paper technique. I usually do at least a fat
1/ 4 of 4 colours at a time, then it goes into my stash ready for when l need it.
