Once you have put all your blocks together you may like to make a border. This is the quilt l mentioned where each block was a different colour. Make the border using the same method you used to make the blocks. In this quilt the border was about 10 inches wide, l trimmed it back to 8 once l'd finished the strips.
The Christmas quilt will not have batting. I only put the quilt on the couch during December, by not using batting the quilt takes up less space when it's not in use, it also saves you a bit of money.
You can make this a quilt as you go, in this case I didn't because of the time factor, l wanted it done quickly. The ugly fabrics act as a stabilizer when you are sewing the strips together.
I sent both these quilts off to the quilters to get a continous quilting pattern. I put batting in the coloured quilt, l used a flannel to back it as the quilt was made to go on the couch and the flannel grips a little.
